Reverse Time: A Unique Industrial Style Residence by Jeff Hsu

Blending Industrial Elements with Modern Design to Create a Warm and Unique Space

The design idea for Reverse Time, a residential project by Jeff Hsu, was inspired by the client's preference for industrial style. However, to avoid an excessive use of industrial elements and to create a functional and inviting space, Hsu combined metal elements with modern design elements, interlacing different materials to bring out the rigidity of industrial style while maintaining a warm and unique atmosphere.

Reverse Time stands out with its appropriate use of industrial elements within the space. The layout seamlessly integrates beams and columns, and the installation of appropriate equipment enhances the overall design. The iron elements are skillfully combined with modern design, connecting the wooden table with leather and wooden floors. The table board is suspended using iron, creating an infinite atmosphere between the desktop and the floor. The windows are strategically placed to shape the interlaced layers of different materials in the space.

The realization of Reverse Time involved careful attention to detail and the use of specific technologies. The concrete ceiling complements the staggered gray-scale natural white oak floor, extending to the light brown color of the laminated wood walls. This combination showcases the overall gray-scale industrial style while creating a warm and harmonious residential space. Leather furniture configurations further enhance the integration of different materials, adding to the unique character of the design. Additionally, the project maximizes the functional aspect of industrial style by incorporating a stainless steel hanging space in the bedroom.

One of the strengths of Reverse Time lies in its flexibility with iron elements. The design team focused not only on the exposed characteristics of industrial space but also on cleverly hiding complicated configurations of pipelines within the space. This approach allows the strong industrial style to present a harmonious and convergent quality under practical considerations. The use of iron elements is also prominently displayed throughout the space, adding to the overall aesthetic.

Reverse Time is a testament to the successful integration of industrial style into a residential space. By combining metal elements with modern design, Jeff Hsu has created a unique and inviting atmosphere. The interplay of different materials, the suspended table board, and the strategic placement of windows all contribute to the overall aesthetic of the design.

Reverse Time was completed in June 2020 in Taipei City, Taiwan. Throughout the project, the design team conducted extensive research to ensure the successful implementation of the industrial style. Overcoming challenges such as selecting suitable industrial elements for the residential space and implementing them with appropriate construction methods, Hsu has created a design that is both visually striking and functional.

Reverse Time has been recognized for its excellence in design and was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design of Reverse Time integrates industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, contributing to a better world.
